PASSAGES is a 60-minute dance story about one woman’s journey as she unravels emotional threads of her lineage, faces the fears of illness and mortality, and discovers the beauty, resilience, and strength of her own soul. This dance performance is presented in a sequential order, like the chapters in a book, and weaves through one person’s lifeline like watching a movie.
PASSAGES carries an overarching message that every human life, no matter the gender, culture, race, age, or religion, is filled with passages. As humans, we share this common thread . . . we all experience poignant moments in our timeline of life that impact our direction, our perceptions, our conditions, and our willingness or unwillingness to change. These experiences are oftentimes calling us into a transition, and an opportunity to let something go and to choose something different. Like turning to a new chapter in life’s book, passages can be an opportunity for gaining insight, and to claim or reclaim something inside ourselves on a deeper level. No matter what, life passages are times of incredible learning and the bittersweet mixture of memory, nostalgia, fortitude, and change.
NewGround Theatre Dance story of PASSAGES is for anyone and everyone to see and experience. We are all true warriors of our own personal life stories. Each of us carry a wellspring of strength, beauty, endurance, and love that can flow if we choose to allow the passages of our lives to shape us into something new.
NewGround Theatre Dance Company has a unique storytelling approach that is both evocative and healing, and has recently gained the title, “performance therapy” or “medicinal choreography” by its audiences.
